Background of Manufacturing Industry:

  • CNC technology is the mother technology of all manufacturing industry.
  • It has a very wide coverage across several engineering fields.
  • We could generally divide the CNC technology into two major sections, which are ‘Machine Application’ and ‘Basic Maintenance & Troubleshooting ’.

 

Current Academic Trend in Manufacturing Training:

  • Focus mostly on theory & simulation.
  • Limited accessibility to actual machine operation & handling due to no budget investing on machine lab set-up or limited machine shared by big group of students.
  • Assumption that CNC in industry is only job for low level machinist or foreign worker, therefor no much focus on practical in this area.
  • No or less involvement in machine maintenance or troubleshooting due to shortage of facility & skilled trainer.

 

Current Industrial Expectation Towards Graduates

  • At machinist or technician, etc. level, graduates should able to handle & operate machine.
  • At engineer, designer, etc. level, graduates should able to understand the machine operation procedures, job shop planning, manufacturing process flow, etc.
  • Industry prefer graduates with basic machinery maintenance & troubleshooting skill as that is the shining values of graduates in helping industry to minimize machine breakdown, or to look for suitable & most economical solution in case service or repair is needed.
  • ALL ABOVE is not possible if students has no chance to use the machine at training institute / university!
